Objective of the workshop:
The workshop was conducted to give an insight into key soft skills and Defining Your Unique Value Proposition. The focus was on impressive resume writing, preparing for a job interview, Enhancing Your Verbal and Non-Verbal Presence in Interviews, and many other skills required to crack the interview and help reach their dream positions.
Summary:
A Skill enhancement workshop was organized on January 11, 2024, in online mode. Mr. Yulki Ellias and Ms.Kurian Joseph were invited as coaches and facilitators who helped students get ready for job interviews. A lighthearted exercise asking participants what they could see outside the window opened the session.
Ms.Kurian Joseph continued the class by educating the participants on how to create a strong CV by emphasizing key aspects in bold to grab their attention and outlining key points to keep in mind when applying for a job for the first time. He went on to provide a few examples of well-written resumes. Mr.Yulki discussed the fundamental qualities that an interviewer looks for in a candidate, including ethics, knowledge, sustainability, and communication style. She went on to discuss the unique value proposition model (UVP), which aids candidates in responding to the opening inquiry, "Tell about yourself." In addition, the UVP model was described with the aid of a video.
Subsequently, Kurian elucidated several models that can be employed to respond to the interviewer's queries. A model known as "description, learning, and application" (DLA) was presented. It means giving an overview of the event or skill, discussing the lessons you learned from it, and then demonstrating how you put the knowledge into practice. A different paradigm called Challenge, Action, and Results (CAR) calls for giving an account of the obstacle you overcome, followed by the methods you took to address the issue, and lastly, the results of your efforts. Lastly, familiarize yourself with your potential employer, match your values to theirs, and provide examples (KAD). Additional advice on how to handle pressure, what to do after the interview, how to dress, and how to use certain communication skills.
The entire course was highly engaging, and participants' one-on-one queries were also answered. They even provided insights into the interviewer's thought process. The entire session proved to be advantageous, providing an excellent chance to acquire new knowledge.
The outcome of the workshop:
The Skill Enhancement Workshop yielded impressive results by enhancing participants' self-awareness, resume writing capabilities, and interview readiness. Participants showed notable enhancements in both verbal and non-verbal communication, greatly improving their overall presence. The workshop also instilled a growth mindset, leaving a lasting impact on participants' resilience and ongoing learning. This was evidenced by participants immediately applying their newfound skills in the workplace, showcasing the practical effectiveness of the program. Additionally, the workshop's focus on promoting individual value and providing personalized feedback led to a boost in confidence. By taking a hands-on approach, the workshop ensured participants were well-prepared for real-world situations. In a short period of time, the program effectively equipped participants with a diverse set of skills.
