Objective: 

To acquire a fundamental understanding of Graphic Design & Illustration from concept to final product. The students will learn and develop each project with fundamental elements of art and the principles of design.

Unit I: 

Working with Anchor Points, Setting line measurements, Attributes Palette, Manipulating lines – Direct Select Tool, Manipulating lines – Width Tool, Filling & outlining, Pencil Tool, Smooth Tool, Erase Tool, The Brush Tool, Brush options, Brush types – art, calligraphic, pattern, scatter, Working with symbol libraries.

Unit II: 

Copying objects, Transforming objects, Pathfinder Palette, Combining shapes, Positioning objects, Grouping & ungrouping, Locking & unlocking objects & layers, Compounding & breaking apart objects, Hiding and showing objects & layers, Hackin’ & ‘Hewin’, Layers, Isolation mode. Working with color, Color aspects, Gradients, Transparency, Color options, Special painting and drawing tools, Spot & process color, Text/Type, Styles, ClipArt, 3D, Special Effects, and Working with Images, Perspective, Effects, Liquify tools, Envelopes, Appearance palette, Shadows, Blends, Meshes, Masks & Libraries.

Unit III: 

Introducing Paths, Creating a Path with the Pen Tool, Drawing curves, Loading Paths as Selections, Turning a Selection into a Path, Reselecting, Swapping, Feathering a selection. Using the preset brushes, working with Gradients, Leading, Tracking, Kerning, Flattening and Merging Layers. Creating Effects with Blend Modes, Managing and Editing Layer Styles, Using Painting and Editing Tools with Channels, Using Painting and Editing Tools with Channels, Working in the Filter Gallery, Choosing Automatic Color Correctors.

Unit IV: 

Opening as a Smart Object, Zooming In and Out of Image, Windows Zooming with keyboard shortcuts, using the Zoom tool, other ways to zoom, Handling the Hand tool, rotating with the Rotate View tool. Vector images, Raster images, Adding pixels to an image, Taking pixels out of an image, changing the Canvas Size, Cropping an Image, Using the Crop tool, Selecting a Color Mode, Converting to a Different Color Mode, Choosing the Right File Format, Mixing with the Color panel, Mixing with the Color panel.

Unit V: 

Working With Special Effects and Texts: Special Effects, Working with Text, Working With Paragraph, Special Text Effects, Using Symbols and Clipart, Working With Bitmaps, Special Page Layouts, Exporting Drawings.
